Polyjet VS FDM Comparison
The Objet 30 Polyjet printer is ideal for small parts with complex shapes and details. This printer is an excellent choice for engineers to check fit and function of multiple parts in assemblies, the high accuracy of the Objet 30 Pro also makes this a great choice for jigs, fixtures and test equipment.
The MakerBot Z18 FDM printer is an ideal choice for student projects, the home hobbyist with a low material cost PLA plastic. MATERIALSVERO
The Vero family of rigid and opaque materials includes VeroWhitePlus™, VeroGray™, VeroBlue™ and VeroBlackPlus™. Vero materials are durable and intended for high-detailed projects, such as creating moving and assembled parts, assembling electronic components and silicon molding.Combining rigid opaque and rubber-like materials, the Polyjet Vero family of materials is ideal for standard plastics simulation and model creation that closely resemble the look of an end product.
DURUS
DurusWhite™, a Polyjet Polypropylene material is ideal for a broad range of applications that require appearance, flexibility, strength and toughness. Properties include Izod notched impact of 44 J/m, elongation at break of 44% and flexural modulus of 1026 MPa. The DurusWhite™ polypropylene material is ideal for prototyping reusable containers and packaging, flexible and snap-fit products, living hinges, toys, battery cases and laboratory equipment, loud speakers and automotive components.
PLA (poly lactic acid)
PLA comes from renewable resources like corn starch or sugar cane. It is environmental friendly and is biodegradable. Its hardness is between r70 and r90 (using a Rockwell Hardness scale) and melts about 173 degrees Celsius. We have observed that accuracy when producing 3D parts is very good; for instance even already assembled parts can be fabricated using this material. In addition, PLA has advantages when doing metal cast because of its lower melting point.
In simple terms, ABS is more for industrial applications where wear durablilty and product testing may be required, where as PLA tends to be for display putpose, "touch and feel" presentations, fit testing or household type objects where life and strength are not a factor.
